KohiKAI Movie: Ngāti Kuia MataitaiNgāti Kuia Mataitai
Ngāti Kuia’s annual Tītīrangi Wānanga
Ngāti Kuia are a small iwi from Te Tau Ihu and were one of the iwi who’s Kaitiaki have played a major role in the development and testing of KohiKAI.
Each year they hold an annual hui at Tītīrangi which is at the head of Te Hoiere (Pelorus Sound), to continue the customary practice of harvesting Tītī (Mutton Birds). But in 2017 the wānanga added the planning of a Mataitai to the wānanga. This short film documents some of those who attended the wānanga and their thoughts about the subject of Tītī, Mataitai and the hui.
